Climate & Health Hackathon Event!

With the recent and devastating wildfires in Quebec, and this summer being the hottest on record, we know that climate change can have adverse effects on Canadians. That is why we’ve collaborated with Humber College’s Office of Sustainability to create the “Climate & Health Hackathon” event!

Everyone is welcome to register and participate! Join teams, create your idea, and pitch it!

The Climate & Health Hackathon event will run from Oct. 13 to 15. Develop innovative solutions to enhance the overall health and wellbeing of West Torontonians for a chance to win a grand prize of $1500 along with the opportunity to partner with a local healthcare organization to implement your idea!

Event details:

Note: If you are a Humber College Student and would like to participate, you will have the added incentive of earning a Co-Curricular Record Credit.

Participation is free. Register and show up!

Day 1

  • The Hackathon will start of Friday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be a presentation by Dr. Imara Rolston, Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, followed by a performing arts segment by West Neighbourhood House’s Health Action Theatre by Seniors (HATS). Both presentations will provide participants with context on how climate change impacts health, urban communities, and vulnerable populations such as seniors. Following these presentations, participants will have the chance to mix and mingle, form teams and select their topics of interest.

Day 2

  • On Saturday, Oct 14 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. teams will commence work on their ideas. Come in-person and receive mentorship from local community health centres, experts, and other representatives to help align your ideas with the challenge posed.

Day 3

  • On Sunday, Oct. 15, from 12 to 5 p.m. teams will present their innovative solutions to a panel of judges.

Food will be provided for free on all three days!
